Derivation From Uncaria Gambir instead of world Famous Gambier

Gambier,  Uncaria gambir, or gambir, is a species of plant in the genus Uncaria found in Southeast Asia, mainly Malaysia and Indonesia. It comes in Black, brown and yellowish tone in color. It is imported in India and other parts of the country. One report says that Indonesia produces 80% of the gambier in the world.

Uses Of Gambier instead of used of Gambier

Gambier naturally refers to the moist, wet extract of the gambir leaves that are processed into a dough, and then dried to the desired shape and dryness level, moisture level. It is processed and cultivated in a traditional way in Indonesia. This gambier is mainly used for its high Catechin, Tannin, Polyphenols etc and is readily used in different industries across the world.

The catechin content in gambier is sufficient and it meets the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Gambier extract is used or has been used as a catechu, Kattha for chewing with areca and betel with paan, for tanning and dyeing in leather and textile industry respectively and as herbal medicine in pharma.  It is said that Gambier extract was also used by native people as a medical treatment or prevention of diseases that were believed to be spread by now obsolete medical theory of miasma.

 

We Indians invented paan, a gambir, kattha paste, that was believed to help prevent miasma; it was considered as the first antimiasmatic application, to remove smell of mouth and since then it is used as food additive also but in very nominal quantity.
